As if the I heart UTG campaign wasn't causing enough heartache, I was disgusted to discover that my friends at the Aberdeen Environmental Education Centre/ formerly Aberdeen Urban Studies Centre is threatened with closure!
27 years of innovative, pupil-centred, lively, fantastic educational resources, and now they are going to pull the plug on Allan, John and Wendy. I was so angry, because they have spent the last month or so helping me bring to life a previously unseen collection of wartime photographs documenting Aberdeen's worst blitz, 21 April 1943. John Sullivan, techie genius, has been digitising the oddest sized negs from their original celluloid format into high-quality images that both they at AEEC and I, as Police Curator for Grampian can use. We are about to hold a joint exhibition, hosted by the Limousine Bull Artists' Collective in Torry, 29 Jan - 14 Feb, and I was up at Skene Square today, the school where AEEC is based, and John told me the grim news.
This is a tragedy for education, really!
I am so annoyed I have been moved to start my own campaign against their threatened closure.
So please join me either on the wiki page or the Facebook group and keep the seagull flying!!
And if you remember going to the Victorian Classroom at Skene Square, write and tell Allan, John or Wendy about your favourite memories: http://www.aeec.org.uk
I am so serious about this, we cannot muck about as the council is going to drop the axe by March of THIS YEAR.
You can download AEEC's manifesto here (it's a PDF file, you need Adobe Reader to view it)
Please print this out and make sure everyone sees it!!
